The Big Question...
The first and most prominent question you'll probably ask yourself is "Do I really need to take the time and effort to get a website or customized software for my business?"
The answer is emphatically and definitely "NO!".
That's OUR job!
But the answer to whether or not you need customized software and / or a web application that enhances your business is simply answered by examining your business and asking yourself if you would like it to expand.
The "global village" is made a village by the internet and computers. If your business is not up to scratch in this department that "village" can soon becomse a very confusing labyrinth in which less-than-desired business transactions get conducted and where it becomes harder and harder to reach people - or for them to reach you.
Some people can get so caught up in the complexities and confusions of an electronic world that they forget to see that world is made to work by simplicities.
But either way, you still don't have to know any of that! All you need to know is that you want to speed your business' production up and that you want to increase its expansion.
The rest is up to us !
I hate learning a new program...
As a developer I've heard this many times before.
After some training and hands-on experience I've also heard the same people (one for one) say "WOW! This is SO easy! I'm so glad we got this done!"
There are several factors associated with having difficulty learning a new piece of software. But the most prominent one is simply not having someone show you how that software works. Whereas some people have the time (and patience!) to sit and read through help files (normally, this gets relegated to the technician in the company who then spends his days showing the rest how to do it), the rest of us like being shown how something works. We like to have someone sit there and simply answer that one question we may have on our new software.
This is part of the Delgado Software and Design philosophy. Hands-On Training.
After your software has been developed Delgado Software and Design takes the time to train you and your staff (including that technician!) on exactly how that software works, with telephonic support offered for any and all questions relating to the software application.
I Don't Want any Software Bugs !
The nightmare of any programmer (and any user for that matter) is bugs! You click a button, it's supposed to do "A" and before you know it you're rebooting your computer only to hit the same problem again once your computer has started!
The CEO of a very successful software company, when interviewed, once stated that bugs are an unfortunate part of programming and new software. This is why companies release a "Beta Version" (a version distributed to be used so that any and all - theoretically - bugs can be found and handled) of every new piece of software and then release a "Stable Version" (often, only to have further bugs found - which then, if the company is reliable, get handled as well)
And so the process goes.
Yes, bad programming results in many bugs, computer crashes and simply irritated users.
But in the category of bad business comes the factor of fixing bugs when they arise and technical support. Bugs here and there are par for the course in programming and new software. A company which does not offer regular software updates (of improved software containing less and less or even - ultimately - NO bugs) and reliable and effective support for users is not as a result of bad programming but rather a result of bad business!
Delgado Software and Design offers technical support and regular updates to clients who request it.

Frequently Asked Questions
OK, Sounds great, but what's the bottom line in terms of COST ! ?
How long is a piece of string? Not what you wanted to hear? Well, unfortunately, that's the simplest answer.
But to give you an idea of levels of cost, a simple site without any functionality (which would fall into the category of a web design service) is obviously the cheapest.
Moving up from there costs raise according to the amount of functionality a site will have, whether it will have an online store, whether there will be a contact database in the background, etc. The options are truly endless but we will sit with you and work out, according to your budget, what is absolutely essential and what is simply a "nice-to-have" and work out the best option for your company.
The same can be said for customized software, the lowest priced software are items which automate simple business procedures. And costs start increasing according to how many things need to be automated, what business processes you are trying to control, etc. Again, we will sit with you and work out what is essential and take it from there.
If the project you want to embark upon is very large, a recommended approach is to take the software or web project and do it in stages. This allows for a faster delivery period of essential items. The second benefit is that, on using the software or seeing the web application in action, you may change your mind about how to tweak further aspects of the site or software application.
What is Website Design?
Unfortunately, website "design" is simply that: a design. With advances in technology the worldwide web is not the "simple" thing it used to be (although many will argue it is not simple at all!)
In the past it was easy enough to create a website, put it on the net and hope for the best. So long as the page looked good and people could find the information they needed, all was fine.
Times have changed. Website design is now its own category. Website development is now probably a more appropriate word.

What is Website Development?
Put simply, web development is the process of creating a business tool on the internet. These days it is not enough for many companies to simply have a website that people visit which answers their questions. Companies want to be contacted, they want to build a contact database, the want to sell products online thereby easing the administrative duties associated with selling; companies want to offer services on the net, they want to send automatic reminder emails, etc. The possibilities are truly endless.
To many, this becomes a daunting and "complicated" task. The almost endless possibilities on what can be done on the web raise the question "What does my company need and where do we start ???" Well, that's where a company like Delgado Software and Design comes in.
Delgado Software and Design takes the complexities out of what can be done for your company via the web and simplifies it to what your company needs. Whereas the design and development process can be a complicated task, this is our job. What you get is the final product.

What is software?
By software, very simply, is meant computer programs which reside on a computer. Such computer programs (software) provide many different services ranging from managing your computer's memory and disk space usage to sending and receiving emails, managing a list of contacts, handling your accounts, etc. In fact, whenever you access something on your computer from your keyboard, mouse or other means you are accessing a piece of software that works with the underlying computer to provide you with the functionality you need.

What is meant by Custom Software?
There are many software applications (computer programs) in existence today. These provide many different services and many even provide very specific services to make your life (or managing a company) easier. There are other instances, however, which require very specific tasks and functions to be performed that are unique to a company and, if performed rapidly and efficiently, will greatly increase that comapny's competitive edge.
It is in these circumstances, of needing company-specific solutions, where custom designed software becomes an absolute must! There are processes unique to each company, actions unique to each section and department that can be speeded up and that should, from a manager's perspective, be monitored. It is not in the interest of mass-production software companies to embark on developing a piece of software specific to only one or maybe a few companies. It just would not be viable to do so.
Mass-produced software is produced with the idea that it will fulfil a general need. Custom software comes into play when a company's needs are no longer met by a general piece of software.

How does the process of developing custom-sofware go?
Developing a custom piece of software has many steps but the main ones are:
-
Establishing your company's exact business process to be automated
-
Designing the software to handle this business process
-
Agreement to the software design with the company
-
Actual development of the software
-
Software installation and testing by users
There are many steps in between. The cycle is really a circular cycle - one with regular discussion and participation from the company and the developers of the software. It is only in this way that a successful project is undertaken.
